RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) means recognition of competencies currently held, regardless of how, when or where the learning occurred. RPL assesses the individual's prior required learning to determine the extent to which that individual is currently competent against the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qualification. What is the difference between RPL and Credit Transfer?
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) means recognition of competencies currently held, regardless of how, when or where the learning occurred. RPL assesses the individual's prior required learning to determine the extent to which that individual is currently competent against the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qualification. Credit transfer means the advanced standing obtained from prior agreements between institutions or organisations on the credit value of specific courses, units of competency or modules. Thus, RPL is recognition or prior competencies regardless of how, when or where the learning occurred.
What happens where an RPL application fails?
The student will be informed as soon as possible whether the application has been successful, unsuccessful or whether further information is required. There is no "pass or fail" for the RPL process; there will either be sufficient evidence to support competence or there will be insufficient evidence. Where the RPL process has been completed and remains unsuccessful then the applicant must complete the course. The process includes a Portfolio of evidence.
